Ryan Carter, a rising senior and Geography major, has been awarded the 2024 North Carolina ArcGIS Users Group (NCAUG) Undergraduate Scholarship. The NCAUG is the largest non-profit organization in North Carolina dedicated to advancing the geospatial industry in both the public and private sectors. This scholarship was awarded to two undergraduate students pursuing degrees that will benefit the state’s geospatial industry. Ryan submitted a project he developed with recent Earth Science graduate Koen Van Den Brand in Dr. Gang Chen’s Digital Image Processing in Remote Sensing class. The project uses advanced remote sensing software, ENVI and eCognition, to analyze changes in erosion and flooding of Masonboro Island as it experienced Hurricanes Florence, Dorian, and Isaias. Ryan recently presented his work at the NCAUG Fall Conference in Wilmington and aims to bring remote sensing to more individuals at UNC Charlotte by founding its chapter of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS). Congratulations Ryan!
