Mineralogy students hiked over Helene-era landslide deposits and downed trees to collect some amazing pegmatite samples from the historic Ray Mica Mine in Yancey County, NC. Kyanite, garnet, muscovite, and tourmaline were popular finds! Below is a gallery of photos from the trip:
