EEGS Celebrates GIS Day 2025
On November 19th, EEGS celebrated GIS Day 2025, bringing together students, faculty, and community partners to highlight the impact of Geographic Information Science (GIScience) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research, education, and real-world decision-making. The event featured a GIS technology exhibition, student competitions, and networking opportunities focused on geospatial tools, applications, and career pathways.
This year, GIS Day welcomed 52 registered participants with additional visitors throughout the day. 20 students participated across 3 competitions (i.e., geovisualization, poster, and lightning talk), and 8 winners were recognized for their talent work. GIS Day also included a CAGIS & EEGS Distinguished Speaker Series talk by Dr. Fang Qiu (UT Dallas), followed by roundtable discussions.
We also thank our community partners who joined us to share resources and insights with our students, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Orbis, and the North Carolina ArcGIS Users Group. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to grow our geospatial community at UNC Charlotte and beyond.
