Rare natural phenomena are more common than you think and can be hiding in plain sight. They are worth protecting because they provide key pieces of the puzzle of Earth’s evolution. Once destroyed, those millions-year-old puzzle pieces are missing forever, and we all know how that feels! 

Prof. Eppes and INES PhD student Faye Moser have been studying granite exfoliation domes for almost a decade. Recently, a small heretofore unknown site became protected by the Catawba Lands Conservancy. Prof. Eppes was interviewed.
