Dr. Colleen Hammelman wins Civic Engagement Award

Dr. Colleen Hammelman was awarded UNC Charlotte’s 2025 Bonnie E. Cone Professorship in Civic Engagement! This award recognizes a tenured faculty member for their teaching and/or research that embodies UNC Charlotte’s commitment to civic engagement and their work that profoundly and systematically improves the relationship between UNC Charlotte and the larger community. Dr. Hammelman’s community-engaged research and teaching fosters collaborative partnerships to build more resilient food systems that improve food security, expand robust and healthful food economies, and support sustainable farming. Dr. Hammelman also serves as Director of the Charlotte Action Research Project (CHARP) which integrates teaching, research, and action to address community challenges in collaborative and reciprocal relationships with local leaders, organizations, and government. Dr. Hammelman will hold the Professorship for three years and will also serve as the urbanCORE Senior Faculty Fellow in 2025-2026. Congratulations Dr. Hammelman!
