AMS Annual Meeting

Several members of the department will be attending and presenting at the American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting from Jan 5-10 in Austin, TX. The AMS meeting attracts over 6000 representatives of the atmospheric sciences community. Undergraduate meteorology majors Brandy Stimac, Reid Strickler, Philip Ware, Gonzalo Agudelo, Daniel Cunningham, David Goldmintz, and Albert Washington will be attending the AMS Student Conference, and both Daniel Cunningham and Albert Washington received funding from AMS to attend the full conference as well. Earth Sciences graduate students Heath Corder, Dan Gilbert, and Cameron Self will also be attending. Daniel Cunningham, Cameron Self, and Phillip Ware will be presenting posters at the AMS Student Conference, and Heath Corder will be presenting a poster at the Energy Poster Session. GES Faculty will also be represented at AMS. Professor Manda Adams will be co-chairing a session in the Weather, Climate, and the New Energy Economy Conference, and Professor Brian Magi will be presenting a paper about the role of lightning in the study of global fire modeling in a session of the Lightning Conference. UNC Charlotte will also have a booth at the AMS Career Fair. A good showing for this major conference! (Contributed by Brian Magi)
