Strong showing at the American Association of Geographers Conference

Our department had a very strong showing at the American Association of Geographers Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Twenty students and faculty members took the journey to share research ideas, participate in panels and recruit new students. Several of us organized and/or chaired an impressive number of sessions.

Congratulations to Dr. Gang Chen who was named the 2016 recipient of the Remote Sensing Specialty Group Early Career Award and Alexander Hohl who finished second in the paper competition of the Spatial Analysis and Modeling Specialty Group. We are pleased to report that our students and faculty members are also very active in specialty groups. Michael Desjardins is the new webmaster of the Health and Medical Geography Specialty Group. Dr. Wenwu Tang has become the vice-chair of the Cyberinfrastructure Specialty Group. Dr. Elizabeth Delmelle will chair the Transportation Specialty Group, while Dr. Eric Delmelle will chair the Health and Medical Geography Specialty Group.
